Iowa author John M. Donovan will be signing copies of his new memoir, Confessions of the Tenth-Smartest Person in the World (And Other Delusions) on Saturday, August 23 from 1:00-3:00pm at Dragonfly Books at 112 W. Water St., Decorah.
Donovan takes memoir to a whole new level in this freewheeling romp through his school days. Written in interview format—but with one of his own fictional characters as the interviewer—Dono tells story after story about his legendary naivete, his growth as a writer, and his strange but well-reasoned idea that in third grade he was indeed the tenth-smartest person in the world. ("I figured there were maybe two kids in school smarter than me, then seven others somewhere in the world.") Self-deprecating to the end, Dono keeps readers hooked with an easy-flowing narrative and constant laughs.
John M Donovan uses crisp dialogue, natural humor, and easy-flowing narrative to tell stories with a Midwestern sensibility and universal themes. His newest books are a short story collection called The Snappy Cola Clock and Other Colby County Stories and a novel called Kerouac's Ghost. A native Hoosier, Donovan now lives in rural Adel, Iowa.
